History
History keeps your successful reads and tool operations on this device. Reopen a saved readout, share an entry, or delete records you no longer need.
What History Keeps
History logs every successful card read and tool operation. Failed reads are not logged. Each entry keeps the UID, chip name, action, a one-line detail, source (Phone, USB, or Bluetooth), and time.
- Save HistoryThis setting is on by default. Turn it off in Settings to stop saving new entries. Existing entries stay in History and can still be deleted.
- ReadThis action records a successful tag, transit card, or bank card read. The entry saves the full readout, including Info and Full Scan.
- PassportThis action marks a passport read that leaves the document locked or opens it with unlock details saved under Remembered Documents. The entry saves the full readout, including any images.
- Unlocked PassportThis action marks a passport unlocked with details typed or scanned in the unlock card. The entry saves the full readout, including its images.
- Tool OperationsWrites and other tool jobs are logged whether they succeed or fail. Each entry keeps only the result title or message, without a readout. A tool job dropped because the tag left the field before completion is not logged.
- Key ChangesKey values are never logged. A key change records its title, such as Key 1 Changed.
Read the List
On iPhone, iPad, and iPhone Duo, History shows filters and an entry count above a card containing the log. On Android, the filters are chips, each entry is its own card, and there is no entry count. Newest entries appear first.
- Entry CountThe caption, such as 12 Entries, counts only the rows shown by the selected filter.
- UIDThe first line shows the UID in a monospaced font. A copy icon appears when the UID is hexadecimal; tap it to copy the UID.
- SourceA USB or BLUETOOTH badge marks an external reader. Phone reads have no source badge.
- Chip and DetailThe second line shows the chip and a detail. Tag and transit reads show the first NDEF record’s value, a balance, Trips Left with a count, Pass Valid Until with a date, Empty, or a record count such as 3 Records.
- Bank Card and Passport DetailsBank cards show the account number or No Account Number. Passports show the document number or Locked.
- Action and TimeThe action appears in green at the right, or Failed in red. Below it, today’s entries show 24-hour time as HH:mm. Older entries add the month and day as MM/dd HH:mm, without a year.
- No Tags Logged YetThe log is empty. The message reads “Reads and writes are saved here when Save History is on in Settings.” Check Save History if successful reads are not appearing. On Android, the message reads “No tags logged yet.”
- Mac TableOn Mac, History uses columns for Time, Chip, UID, Action, and Source.
Filter the Log
The filter starts on All each time the app launches. Changing filters clears the current selection.
- AllShows every entry.
- ReadsShows successful card reads with the action Read, Passport, or Unlocked Passport.
- WritesShows every tool operation, including failures. Read Sectors, Read Blocks, Read File, Key Check, Password Test, and the DESFire Applications and Files jobs belong here even when they only read the card.
- FailedShows failed tool operations. Failed card reads are not logged.
- No Matching EntriesThe message reads “No entries match this filter.” Choose All to see every saved entry. On Android, the page reads “No tags logged yet.”
- Search UID or ChipOn Mac, use this field to find entries by UID or chip name.
Open an Entry
On iPhone, iPad, Android, and iPhone Duo, tap a read entry to open its saved readout in a window. Tool operations have no readout and do not open. The window shows the chip name, UID with its copy icon, and time.
- InfoThe window opens on Info. This view shows the summary, a passport’s Images, and NDEF records.
- Full ScanAdds every section in the saved readout, the NDEF section with payload hex, and the memory map.
- ExplanationsTap a row’s (i) button to read its explanation.
- LinksLink values offer Copy to copy the link and Open Link to open it.
- ImagesA passport’s Images row shows each image with its type, JPEG or JPEG 2000, and size. Tap a thumbnail for a full-size view.
- Export ImageSaves the original passport image file.
- CloseTap the X button or outside the window to close it.
- Mac ReadoutOn Mac, a wide window shows the selected entry’s readout beside the table. Open in Read opens it in Read; Open Full Scan opens its Full Scan view.
Delete Entries
On phones and tablets, select entries before deleting them. There is no swipe to delete or Clear All. To empty the log, choose All, Select, Select All, then Delete and confirm.
- SelectTap the check circle button in the top bar or below Back in the side rail to enter selection mode. On Android, tap Select beside the filters. Each row gains a check circle; tap rows to select them. Select is hidden when the log is empty.
- Selection CountThe bar above the tabs counts the entries you have selected, such as 2 selected.
- Select AllSelects every entry shown by the current filter. The button becomes Select None when all visible entries are selected; tap it to clear the selection.
- DeleteThe trash button appears during selection and stays dimmed until an entry is selected. Tap it to open the confirmation.
- Delete ConfirmationThe dialog asks, for example, “Delete 2 Entries?” Choose Cancel to keep the entries or Delete to remove them from this device’s log. Earlier device backups may still contain them. Deletion cannot be undone in the app.
- DoneSelect becomes Done during selection. Tap Done to leave selection mode.
- BackEnds selection mode. Outside selection, it returns to Read.
- Mac DeletionOn Mac, check the rows you want to remove, then choose Delete.
Where History Is Stored
History is a file in the app’s own storage on the device.
- Local StorageNFC Utils has no account and sends no History data to a server. History does not sync through iCloud. On iPhone, iPad, and Mac, device backups can include the file. The app opts out of Android backups, so they exclude History.
- Log SizeHistory has no size limit and does not remove old entries automatically.
- Sensitive DataEntries can hold a bank card’s full account number or a passport’s holder details, document number, and photo.
- Remembered DocumentsRemembered passport documents are separate from History. On iPhone, iPad, and Mac, unlock details are stored in a device-only keychain item. Android encrypts each entry with a key held in Android Keystore.
- ForgetForgetting a document in Settings does not remove its History entries. Deleting those entries does not forget the document.
